Customer Reviews

Assembly was a trial-and-(mostly) error ordealI rarely write reviews but feel compelled to make an exception in this case, specifically regarding putting the screen on the stand and figuring out how to make it tilt. Contrary to several claims in the Questions section on this product, THIS MONITOR DOES INDEED TILT!The textless diagram Viewsonic provides on putting the monitor on it s rather rinky-dink stand is so tiny that what I consider the most critical detail is indecipherable without a microscope. There are a number of parts and cables thrown into the box. One is an almost flat, round disk that is obviously designed to sit on a table over which an oval-shaped cylinder or collar snaps into place. There is a corresponding oval shaped projection on the back of the monitor designed to fit into the oval collar, but once that s done and the screen and stand are placed on a table, the screen rocks back and forth and there appears to be no way to get it level, much less tilt. After looking for clues on Viewsonic s website and finding none, I called customer service and was connected to a very helpful, but clearly addled rep who confessed that this was not the first inquiry about this same issue she had received recently. She was scrambling to help me and put me on hold for a few minutes. During the hold time, I noticed another unidentified part in its own plastic bag, whose intended purpose was mystifying. It appeared to be a wire manager, but offered no clues as to where or how it was supposed to attach. It s T-shaped and the longer end seemed to be designed to fit somewhere. I turned the monitor around and noticed a hole on the back of the collar holding the screen. Looking into this hole with a flashlight, I realized that this hole (barely) aligned with another hole on the monitor projection that fits into the collar. I wondered if the mystery part was intended to snap into these holes. After several attempts, it finally snapped in and turned out to be the magical part that made the whole thing work. It leveled the screen and provided adequate resistance to make tilting it possible. When the customer service rep came back on the line, I explained what I had done and told her there was no way Viewsonic s diagram (or anything else I saw online) identified this little part, what it was for or where it was supposed to go.I am hoping these comments will save future customers the time and frustration I experienced. As for the monitor, I am using it with a Mac Mini. It works and is probably all one can expect for under $100. If you re used to an iMac screen, plan on spending some time adjusting the controls inconveniently located on the underside (not on the front of) the lower bezel.4Good product, poor logistics.Altogether I m happy with the quality of the monitor - I m quite IRRITATED with the shipping... I happened to be home whenever my order (two of these monitors and a dual monitor stand) were delivered. I was alerted to my packages being delivered by a surprisingly loud BANG coming from my front door that I heard from my living room, through the door, over 20 feet away. I immediately went to the door and opened it to find one box (containing the monitor referenced in the picture) at my feet. The delivery driver was back at his van retrieving the other two boxes. It was immediately clear that the BANG I heard was the delivery driver THROWING my f***ing package, in a rush. Needless to say the other two packages were carefully handed to me. After unpackaging everything and getting it all set up I thought I was in the clear and there was no clear damage done. But a couple of weeks later when I started working from home, on the computer for hours a day, I noticed the monitor that was THROWN has a weird issue with the display, which you can see in the picture. A simple row of B s in Excel shows how whatever is internal is now displaying crooked, which admittedly is much more evident in person than via picture. I say I m irritated because beyond this minor (and blatantly unnecessary defect) the monitor works exactly as expected, and this logistics issue is the only reason I m not awarding five stars. If you re reading this, unless you have a jack@$$ delivery person like I did, you ll likely be very happy with this product. But seriously Amazon, I ve loved being a prime member for years now and this is literally the first issue I ve ever had. Please look into your last-mile logistics so that your loyal customers don t have to deal with a similar situation. I d return the product for a new one but the hassle just wouldn t be worth it.4One Year Later.... I order this monitor last year (8/19/2018) and it still works as if it's brand new. The highlights of this product are the precise image quality and the screen's brightness. I would also point out there is no webcam or audio speakers which could be a deciding factor for you. Using this device, every single day for at least 5 hours, for an entire year proving this monitor really held up. Even moving this thing around, disconnecting to other devices, zero issues. No weird humming, glitching, or trouble starting this thing up or turning it off.I did have a hiccup when I first received this thing, but it literally was my computer that soon died after speaking to Amazon's support team. My computer was old, once I received a new one this thing work just as good as any name brand monitor. Also DUMMY-PROOF, easy set-up, no software needed. I would highly recommend for the price, the quality, and the visuals. I am a tough reviewer ( I don't "love" too many things LOL) but this is a really good find. I hope this helps :)4Poor Sound, Cheap Look, Good Picture.Good pictureLooks cheapPoor sound, I didn't expect to blast the latest jams, but the sound is too poor even to make out the WORDS in a high quality recording.Oddly, you can't even use the headphone jack - it sounds like garbage. If I was ViewSonic, I would ditch the sound functionality completely and put a few extra cents into the case itself. If you don't need the VESA mounting capability or the useless sound, I would go with the HP22CWA monitor. It has a much better mount and is far more 'premium' looking for roughly the same price.3Great monitor for the price! This monitor is mostly intended for Windows; comes with a windows software package; does NOT include a software package for MAC OS, but the basic functions still work on a MAC>The picture quality is as good, if not better than my iMac monitor, and that is saying a lot. There is a lot of thin plastic in the design which I don't care for too much, but for the price, I can see that I am getting what I paid for.If your main concern is picture quality and price, this is the monitor for you.5Make sure if you have an Intel graphics adaptor that YCbCr is enabledNice monitor. Connected via HDMI cable. If you have a problem with black levels try this. If you have an Intel graphics adapter enable YCbCr in your color settings (or possibly any graphics card you're using) . This made a world of difference in my black levels and not having washed out colors. When I first connected the monitor to my laptop it was not good. No amount of messing with the monitor controls or laptop controls will remedy the issue until you enable this. Once enabled the screen looks great. Forget about the built in speakers for great sound. Yes, they work if you have nothing else but that's not why you by a large display.5Dual displays for remote office using laptopBought to make a dual display workstation out of my little laptop. The price was right, quick delivery, easy set-up and it very stable using my Thunderbolt dual monitor splitter on my laptop. I ve had issues with other brands not syncing up. These are solid. If I open the laptop, I technically have 3 displays. My only complaint is that the unit comes with a VGA cable instead of an HDMI cable which went right in the trash. Luckily I had a few HDMI cables kicking around.5Okay but Not OutstandingPicture quality seems quite good. Sound, well, no. Output is weak at best and not at all impressive. But the thing that annoys the living daylights out of me is that it is not stable. Any touch, or bump of the table it is sitting on and it will flop 5 degrees left or right. Yeah, not a lot, but enough to be really annoying. Power button is not visible, it is on the bottom immediately adjacent to the settings menu button. Can't just look and press the switch, you have to feel under the edge to find the switch. Be sure to feel from right to left to make sure you get the power button and not one of the others. These are fairly minor, if annoying, features. So it gets 4 stars overall. UPDATE: Instruction sheet that comes with the monitor is impressive, over 2 dozen languages. But this makes it so small that the non-labeled instruction drawings are too small to see and really don't provide much information. By scanning and enlarging, I found that assembly requires the "neck" to be inserted on the monitor first and then the round stand snapped on. This eliminates most of the wobble. Too bad they couldn't provide decent instructions.4Stopped WorkingI purchased this product four months ago and it just stopped working. It has been one problem after another including their warranty coverage. First, even when the monitor worked, it was very difficult to adjust the volume. It didn't just have a volume control button (that I could find anyway.) To adjust the volume, I had to navigate lengthy onscreen prompts using hidden buttons underneath the monitor.Next, the monitor stopped working altogether. When I contacted the Amazon SquareTrade extended warranty service, they said I had to contact the manufacturer. When I contacted the manufacturer, the insisted that it's the fault of the HDMI connection. I told them that I'd tried two different HDMI cables that were new and near-new. So now they are sending me material to send the monitor back so they can check the connection. So I will be without a monitor for an extended period of time. It would be so much easier and better for both of us if they'd just send me a new monitor.Needless to say, I'm disappointed w/ this ViewSonic product and cannot recommend it.2No hardware assembly information - can you adjust tilt and height?Just received this unit - I'm sure the video and audio will be what we are looking for, as we have been satisfied with ViewSonic products in the past. But upon putting the base and stand together, it looks like this unit has no tilt or height adjustment at all. I don't think I've ever had a monitor that couldn't be adjusted both for height and tilt angle. Evidently I will need to use shims to tilt it for viewing comfort. If an adjustable base is something that has to be ordered (and paid for) separately, that feels like a real ripoff. The "instructions" are pretty much useless - type is too small to read without a magnifier, and the illustration shows nothing about tilt or height adjustments (and is too blurry to tell what it does show). No videos that we could find either. Although I may be pleased with the viewing quality of this display, out of the box it was a bit of a disappointment. If this thing actually does tilt, there is no information anywhere to tell me how to do it.3
